Debra Westwood

Debra brings to Primary Source a wealth of experience in management, and specializes in change management for staff and leadership teams. She is an expert in personal and workplace resilience, stress management and avoiding burn out in libraries. She also specializes in customer service, community outreach and strategic partnerships.
Debra works under the assumption that "everything you do has the power to change a life. As staff in public libraries, we may not see the full impact of our actions at the time. But it happens. Our libraries are centers of education, information and access and every one of us is an agent for change in the best possible way."

Debra thinks the late L. Allen Smith, of Simmons College of Boston, College of Library Science, summed up things nicely:
On librarianship: "In order to be really good as a librarian , everything counts towards your work, every play you go see, every concert you hear, every trip you take, everything you read, everything you know. The more you know, the better you're going to be."
And on library management: "Get to know everyone, make sure they know what they're doing, make sure you're doing what you should be doing, ... and get everyone bagels every now and then. They'll appreciate it."
